WordPress is an amazing CMS platform… and possibly THE most appealing thing about it is how easy it is for new users to update content without needing to call or email their web guru. Having said that, even the greenest users still need a lesson or two (or ten!) before they’re completely happy with the system.
Which brings us to our recommendation for anyone using WordPress for the first time, the WP101 Video Series. Ramp up your knowledge like BIG time by simply watching videos online with WP101!
Training new clients and user how to use WordPress is actually pretty time consuming, and lets be honest, most web devleopers are NOT born teachers (to say the least!).
We believe this is the best instructional course for WordPress on the market today and is perfect for those n00bs looking for educational materials at a low cost.
There are 20 videos in all covering everything starting from the Dashboard through to the media library, and onto to changing the theme. Basically, just about everything a noob WordPress user should know before they decide to play TOO hard with the inner springs of WordPress on their own.
It only costs US$19 as a one time payment for a lifetime membership… which can seem steep compared to free resources… until you consider that that one time payment pretty much covers you and your friends for hours, days, even weeks of your time over the long run.
In full disclosure, we are a huge fan and a complete convert to WP101.com and we’ve yet to really find a video teaching service that really compares… but we would imagine that they’ll start to pop up as the spread of WordPress continues and the demand for fast, simple, quality training increases.
WP 101 Plugin actually built INTO your WordPress
What a brilliant idea!
WP101 even offers a plugin that brings the videos straight to your WordPress dashboard… so you can learn without ever leaving your own WordPress site. No need for your web guru to repeat themselves over and over (as they do, see note on teaching skills above!), and you can learn at your own pace, on your own time. WP101 even includes updates to their videos at every major new WP release.
The premise of the WP 101 Tutorial Plugin is simple, to showcase video tutorials of WordPress from within the back-end of WordPress. After using the plugin and watching a few videos, we think it delivers on all levels.
The video player supports watching videos at full screen or in HD which is a very nice touch so you can see the instructions easily. The audio commentary within the videos is easy to understand (even though I am British!) and it completely follows the flow of the animation.
As far as the plugin settings go, there is only one to worry about, the API key (get one here). Once you pay for your monthly subscription, you’ll be given an API key that gives you access to all the videosthe videos.
Overall, the plugin is simple to install, simple to use, and definitely delivers when it comes to professional high quality training videos for WordPress. You can watch a sample video that’s part of the package here.
This is an exclusive series that’s been assembled in collaboration with WP101.com.
All of our clients here The Armay of Flying Monkeys have access to this series automatically. Yes WE subscribe to the wp101 series plugin!
For anyone brand new to the WordPress platform, and just about anyone working with WordPress, from noobs to seasoned veterans should find some big value here.
There are 20 posts in all, which means that when you’re done, you’ll have a great place to review all of the basic bits and pieces of WordPress.
